Chatham-Kent police are investigating a fatal collision that claimed the life of a 38-year-old cyclist just before midnight Sunday.Police said the Chatham man was believed to be travelling west on Grand Avenue East when he was struck by a transport truck going in the same direction.The man was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.The identity of the man is not being released at this time until next of kin are notified, police said.The traffic unit has taken over the investigation. Randy Whittaker at [email protected] or 519-355-1092.Drug charges laidTwo people are facing drug-related charges after Chatham-Kent police responded to a disturbance in a parking lot on Lacroix Street in Chatham just after 9 p.m. Sunday.Police said a crowd of people was seen around a vehicle, which immediately tried to flee when police arrived.An officer stopped the vehicle and, through investigation, learned the driver, a 30-year-old woman of no fixed address, was under a licence suspension.The accused was arrested and police reportedly found cocaine in the vehicle and crystal methamphetamine, along with baggies and a digital scale in a backpack.She was charged with driving while under suspension, drug possession and possession for the purposes of trafficking.A 28-year-old Blenheim man, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested and charged with drug possession and possession for the purposes of trafficking.Both were taken into custody pending a bail hearing.Windsor man arrestedA 19-year-old Windsor man is facing charges of assault and mischief in connection to an incident in Chatham on Sunday night.Chatham-Kent police alleged the accused assaulted his girlfriend while in her vehicle when she stopped at a local convenience store.The man also caused about $200 damage to her windshield, police alleged.He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.Dispute in DresdenA 58-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats after Chatham-Kent police were called to a dispute on North Street in Dresden around 11 a.m. Saturday.Police alleged the accused went to the victim’s a residence and drove his vehicle into the victim’s parked vehicle. The accused also reportedly chased the victim with a metal pipe, threatening the man.Police said there were no injuries and the accused was released with a court date.Vehicles stolenChatham-Kent police are investigating four separate vehicle thefts that occurred over the weekend.A red 2010 GMC Sierra pickup truck was stolen from Wren Line in Wallaceburg some time late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, police said.The vehicle was last seen with Ontario licence plates AE88 624 and had “Anderson Web and Mechanical Contractors” written on it.Anyone with information is asked to contact Const.
