GERMANY: Deutsche Bahn has signed a €160m contract for 38 Alstom Coradia Lint regional diesel multiple-units, which will be used on Dieselnetz Südwest services in Rheinland-Pfalz, Hesse and Baden-Württemberg from 2015.The contract announced on June 28 includes 14 DMUs with 112 seats ordered under a framework agreement signed in 2008, and 24 units with 160 seats as an option on a 2011 order. They will be manufactured at Alstom’s Salzgitter site. The low-floor units will be equipped with air-conditioning, CCTV, two wheelchair spaces and an accessible toilet.
Athletics Athletes from Eastern Highlands, Jiwaka, Mount Hagen (Western Highlands), Chimbu, Madang, Lae (Morobe), Bulolo and Port Moresby are preparing to travel to Goroka this week for the PNG Air Highlands-Momase Regional Championships. The championships will be held at the National Sports Institute. The Local Organising Committee headed by Philip Kamane has been busy putting the finishing touches to preparations for the event. Athletics PNG secretary Philip Rehder thanked the institute for its support of the event as well as other sponsors Prima Smallgoods, Lae Biscuit Company and Sengda Trading. PNG Air are sponsoring flights for a number of experienced technical officials from around Papua New Guinea, including one from Kokopo, East New Britain and three from Port Moresby. More than 500 are expected to attend following visits to Chimbu and Jiwaka provinces recently and the local interest generate through Eastern Highlands School Athletics Program run by the institute this year. Kamane urged teams to submit their entries ahead of their arrival to Goroka to avoid any delays to the start of events on Friday afternoon. Oceania Athletics Association is lending its support to the event with competition manager Tom O’Shaunessey paying his first visit to PNG to help with the operation of a fully automatic timing system.
